Too Funny...

OK, I will try to post and see what kind of backlash I get:) I saw this article and it made me laugh (I am not sure why, it isn't a laughing matter at all).

Levi Johnston's mom arrested on drug charges
Johnston is the father of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's future grandson
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28313509/?GT1=43001

(That was a really roundabout headline to say that the mom of Bristol Palin's boyfriend was arrested)

Now, this goes back to the Moms question about coverage: why on earth is THIS being reported, and not the church bombing? Granted, it will not make national nightly news I am sure, but it was on MSNBC.COM on the front page.

Anyway, I don't want to get into a battle of liberal media- we've hashed that to death. BUT, my husband and I were talking about why the church might not want the vandalism and violence taking place on the news. We thought that, perhaps, by putting them on the news it gives them power. Like the Columbine shooters- they became infamous for a heinous act, and now others copy what they did because they also want to be on the news- and, hey, if you are going to commit suicide anyway, why not be famous all over the country? So, we thought maybe it is good that the church bombings (Governor Palin's church- I don't think any of ours have been targeted) and such are not being broadcast, because that would then give power to the movement, not the church. Does that make sense?

Anyway, I am curious to see what others think.

I found the wording hard to decipher, "Sherry Johnston charged with second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance and fourth-degree misconduct involving controlled substances, or possession."

What?? What a tirade of legal speak. I had to read it like five times and I'm still not sure what it said. The whole story reads like it should be in the National Enquirer or OK magazine (a mag I read by the way...), not a city paper.

I agree with your current and recent assessment of why these stories do or don't make the national news. It makes sense. It's what the criminals want. Press time.

I personally don't think the media deliberately passes on stories because of bias. Quite the opposite actually, and those that don't think so should take a hard look at the Clinton years. I remember them well, and in no way did they get a free pass. The beginning of the war in Iraq is another one, Bush got off pretty easy at first.

I think it cuts both ways. Except in Palin's case, I will admit she's taken alot of hits. That's what she gets for being newsworthy.

So sorry, had to say my too bits about the 'liberal media'.

I just saw this piece on the evening news.

"Good and Bad News for Sarah Palin tonight. Her grandbaby boy is due any day, but his other grandmother is a felon!"
Stop the presses!!!

That drew a little chuckle from my lips.

Yes, I know I can expect coal in the stocking.

I agree. Why is this on the news? Although I don't consider MSNBC 'news'...:) I think it is a tug-a-war between Fox News and MSNBC from the right and left. If Fox feels the 'liberal media' has missed out on a horrible story affecting the conservative of the country, they will cover it. If MSNBC feels that the liberal stories aren't getting covered, they're up to the challenge.
I just feel bad for the young couple and their soon-to-be baby. Neither of them asked for this attention.

Well, in MSNBC's defense, the story was only up for like an hour-they constantly change their headlines, probably based on hits, so in actuality I bet the church bombing was up there, and I just missed it. News moves so quickly these days!
Hopefully this mom learned her lesson, though- how embarrassing (maybe we need to publicly humiliate people more often so they won't continue to do their evil druggie deeds..).

I'm missing out on all the 'true' news in the world. :o)
