A War's Legacy

A special thanks to my grandfather who fought in WWI, my uncle who earned a Purple Heart in Vietnam, and to those that have given everything, their health, their homes, their jobs, precious time away from family, even their very lives for this country. We've asked a lot of you, and apparently offer very little in return. We hope you can be with your families again soon.

Yes, it is sad how vets are sometimes treated when they return home. I know my brother-in-law, who fought in Iraq and received permanent injuries, constantly struggles trying to get the care that he needs and deserves. His wife is always telling us how ridiculous it is. They always get the run around.

I also just saw on the news that the number of soldier suicides have gone up 40-something percent (can't remember exact amount). That is just so sad to me. We ask them to do so much for us. I wish our country would do more for their physical and mental needs when they return.

I TOTALLY agree. We need to be doing more for our vetrans.

Oh my gosh! Jen, did we just agree on something??? We need to celebrate! Bring on the Purple Cows. Wait, better yet, the candy cane oreos!

Ok Mandy, yes, we agreed! I do have to say one thing, however controversial it may be. I don't believe that our men and women are getting the support that they need from basic citizens and from our media. Whether we are for the war or against the war, we always need to show our support and gratitude to them whenever we see them. They are trained to obey orders, whether or not they agree with the orders, they go forth and fight. I think that they are hearing so much negativity regarding the war and not enough positives. We could definitely do more to show gratitude--me included!

I also need to thank the draft department who in 1967 allowed my father an exemption from service because my mother was one month pregnant with me. Every Veteran's Day I should say to him, You're Welcome. I hope he remembered that each time I crashed the car.
